Milam County Sex Offender Registration & Compliance

The Milam County Sheriff's Office is responsible for ensuring compliance with Texas state laws regarding the registration and monitoring of approximately 75 convicted sex offenders residing within the unincorporated areas Milam County. Our goal is to protect the community while ensuring that all registration requirements are met in accordance with Texas law.

Registration Requirements

Under Chapter 62 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, individuals convicted of certain sexual offenses are required to register as sex offenders. This applies to offenders residing, working, or attending school within Milam County.

Who Must Register?

  • Individuals convicted of qualifying offenses under Texas law
  • Persons required to register in another state who move to Milam County
  • Offenders moving to, working in, or attending school in Milam County

When and Where to Register

Sex offenders must register in person at the Milam County Sheriff's Office at the following location:

Appointments are required. Please contact the coordinator in advance to schedule your registration or updates.

 

Information Required for Registration

Registered sex offenders must provide the following details during the registration process:

✔ Full legal name and any aliases

✔ Current residential address

✔ Employer and work address (if applicable)

✔ School enrollment details (if applicable)

✔ Recent photograph and fingerprints

✔ Vehicle information

✔ Online identifiers (email, social media, etc.)

✔ Details of the offense requiring registration

Failure to provide complete and accurate information may result in criminal penalties.

 

Ongoing Registration Requirements

Depending on the offense, offenders are required to verify their registration as follows:

  • Annually for standard offenders
  • Every 90 days for high-risk offenders
  • Every 30 days for civilly committed offenders

Any changes in address, employment, school enrollment, or personal details must be reported within 7 days.

Public Access to the Sex Offender Registry

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) provides an online Texas Public Sex Offender Registry, where community members can search for registered sex offenders by name, address, or location.

Failure to Comply & Legal Consequences

Sex offenders who fail to register, fail to update information, or provide false information may face felony charges, fines, and possible incarceration. The Milam County Sheriff's Office actively monitors compliance and conducts periodic checks to ensure adherence to registration laws.
