Public Information Requests
Under the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), residents have the right to request access to government records, including reports, documents, and other public information maintained by the Milam County Sheriff's Office. The request is limited to records or information already in existence. The Act does not require the Sheriff's Office to create new information, to do legal research, or to answer questions. In some cases, the request for information may concern protected information that can not be released.
How to Request Public Records
Public records requests must be submitted by written request and should include the following:
Your name and contact information
A clear description of the records requested (case number, dates, involved parties, etc.)
Preferred method of receiving the records (email, mail, or in-person pickup)

National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS)
The National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) is a crime reporting program managed by the FBI and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). NIBRS provides detailed crime data to help law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and the public understand crime trends in their communities.
What is NIBRS?
NIBRS collects and reports data on a wide range of offenses, including:
Crimes Against Persons (assault, homicide, sexual offenses)
Crimes Against Property (burglary, vandalism, fraud)
Crimes Against Society (drug offenses, weapon violations)
This system improves transparency by providing detailed incident-level data instead of just summary statistics.
